A. PENGERTIAN WISH AND HOPE

   Wish and Hope
Ungkapan wishes atau hope digunakan untuk mendoakan orang orang untuk mencapai kesuksesan, prestasi dan keberuntungan. 

   Dalam Bahasa Indonesia, Hope dan Wish mempunyai arti yang sama, yaitu Berharap. Penggunaan kedua kata tersebut dapat kita perhatikan pada contoh berikut:
   Hope (that) mengekspresikan keinginan yang berhubungan dengan masa lalu, sekarang atau masa yang akan datang.

  • I hope you weren't late.
  • I hope you are ready.
  • We hope you will be very happy.


    Sedangkan Wish (that) mengekspresikan suatu penyesalan akan sesuatu di masa lalu, sekarang atau masa yang akan datang.
Wish diikuti oleh simple past untuk menyatakan bahwa situasi yang diinginkan tidak mungkin terjadi pada saat ini (present), sedangkan wish diikuti past perfect untuk menyatakan tidak mungkin terjadi di masa lampau (past). Wishdapat pula diikuti past future(would/could+Verb1) untuk menyatakan keinginan seseorang untuk melakukan sesuatu secara berbeda. 

  • I wish I hadn't eaten so much. (Artinya saya makan terlalu banyak)
  • I wish I had a lot of money. (Kenyataannya, saya tidak punya banyak uang)
  • I wish I could go with Ali. (Kenyataannya saya tidak akan bisa pergi bersama dengan Ali)

B.PERBEDAAN WISH AND HOPE

    perbedaan Wish dan Hope. Walaupun dua kata kerja tersebut sama dalam arti,tetapi sama sekali tidak sama dalam gramatikal. kata kerja Wish digunakan untuk menunjukan sesuatu yang pasti tidak akan terjadi/belum tentu terjadi.Sementara Kata kerja Hope digunakan untuk menunjukan sesuatu yang mungkin terjadi atau mungkin akan terjadi. 

C. CONTOH KALIMAT

Contoh kalimat hope:

  • I hope she likes the flowers. (Saya berharap dia suka bunganya.)
  • I hope the bus comes soon. (Saya berharap bus datang segera.)
  • I hope you feel better tomorrow. (Saya harap kamu merasa lebih baik besok.)
  • I hope you are fine there. (Saya harap kamu baik-baik saja di sana.)
  • We must hope for the best. (Kita harus berharap untuk yang terbaik.)

Contoh kalimat Wish

  • The boys wish they could go to Hawaii. (Anak-anak berharap mereka bisa pergi ke Hawaii.)
  • She wishes she were here now. (Dia berharap dia ada di sini sekarang.)
  • Mary wishes she were a movie star. (Mary berharap dia adalah bintang film.)
  • I wish I had a big car. (Saya berharap saya memiliki mobil besar.)
  • I wish you would stop smoking. (Saya berharap kamu akan berhenti merokok.

Why does Edo give Lia a present?
A.    Because Lia likes present.

C.     Because Edo has a lot of money.
